Dealing with disruption through art – Chike Azuonye with Hannah Azuonye –Ogbo Conference
Chike Azuonye is a fine artist, classically trained with a BA (Hons) degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1987). He has a very impressive portfolio, including commissioned works, in oil, charcoal, acrylic, pencil and pastel. His paintings are colourful, vibrant and mainly painted in oils. Chike’s works are often done in impasto using palette knives, and ranged from stylised to pure abstract, depicting scenes inspired by his native Nigeria or his spiritual background.
He is the co-founder and Vice President of the Nigeria Art Society UK (NASUK), a collective of highly talented Nigerian artists http://www.nigeriaartsociety.com/.

Chike and Hannah Azuonye had their conversation at the virtual Igbo symposium on Disruptions: Breaks & Ruptures, which held from 17th-19th June 2020. Over the three days a range of speakers discussed significant moments of change for Igbo people, brought about by disruptive forces (both positive and negative). Conversations engaged with key historical events and changes in cultural practices, notions of identity and ways of seeing the world.
