The annual international Igbo conference, in partnership with The Centre for African studies, SOAS, University of London is an Igbo studies forum for discovering the Igbo culture, language and heritage.The annual Igbo conference aims to promote the study of Igbo language and culture within the UK and beyond, and seeks to bring academics and members of the Igbo community together for the purpose of knowledge sharing and exchange.
The 9th edition of the conference, due to be held this year in Nigeria for the first time , was cancelled due to the pandemic.
To keep the conversation going, we invite you to join us for our very first virtual symposium on 17th-19th June 2020.
The theme of the Virtual Symposium is
Disruptions: Breaks and Ruptures (Disruptive events and ideas along the Igbo timeline).
Over the three days we will hear from a range of speakers who will discuss significant moments of change for Igbo people, brought about by disruptive forces (both positive and negative). Conversations will engage with key historical events and changes in cultural practices, notions of identity and ways of seeing the world.
